He later became ambassador of Thailand to the US and minister of foreign affairs. The boys were hunting for a bottle of liquor, but there was none in the house. Some of her friends left because there was no alcohol. Kenneth was so cheered by it. The party was a great success. The US consul sent a cable giving the numbers of Americans in peril on these tin mines and rubber estates, all unarmed, and asked if the U.S. government could send them small arms so that they could protect themselves. When Nixon saw it, he claimed he would get a bigger tiger skull than Kenneth's and he did: "I TOLD YOU I'D GET A BIGGER ONE THAN YOURS, AND I DID!!" Kenneth also tells of a joke of sorts in which Colonel Wilfred Smith presented him with a tray which held a tiger head skull on it--the skull not being part of the gift. Over a course of 13 years Kip Landon (Kenneth Landon Jr.) began recording stories from his parents, Margaret and Kenneth Landon, resulting in 95 hours of recordings. Beginning on July 20, 1976, recording finished in June, 1978. The project resumed again in 1982 for a few months. After a long break, the third recording period began in 1988 and concluded in March 1989.
