Both men did not speak Thai, and the police officers did not speak English, but they were able to communicate about the registration of a newborn. Kenneth and Al managed to get the Thai birth certificate, but years later Kenneth realized that the writing in Thai read, "Baby Seigle," so Margaret's Thai birth certificate was useless.
