Kenneth called on him and showed him the listing of all these books he had for the university if they were interested. Metcalf declined the offer. When the war broke out, Dr. Metcalf was lamenting the fact that Harvard did not have a library on Southeast Asia to support courses. Kenneth reminded him about his offer to him that he rejected, only a few years earlier. Over a course of 13 years Kip Landon (Kenneth Landon Jr.) began recording stories from his parents, Margaret and Kenneth Landon, resulting in 95 hours of recordings. Beginning on July 20, 1976, recording finished in June, 1978. The project resumed again in 1982 for a few months.
