Finally, Mr. Byrd decided to dispose of Kenneth, saying that he was assuming a knowledge of the country of Thailand that he really didn't possess. He expressed admiration for Kenneth's father as a scholar and the books he had written, but advised Kenneth not to claim to know what his father knew. Byrd didn't know Kenneth had written the books, and when Kenneth revealed that he was the "father" in question, it just took the gas out of him. That was virtually the end of British opposition while Kenneth was there. Over a course of 13 years Kip Landon (Kenneth Landon Jr.) began recording stories from his parents, Margaret and Kenneth Landon, resulting in 95 hours of recordings. Beginning on July 20, 1976, recording finished in June, 1978. The project resumed again in 1982 for a few months. After a long break, the third recording period began in 1988 and concluded in March 1989.
