Kenneth on Abbot Low Moffat and Joseph Grew
Subject
Grew, Joseph C. (Joseph Clark), 1880-1965 Moffat, Abbot Low, 1901-1996
Description
Kenneth's background on Southeast Asia led him to be convinced that these colonies were going to run their own show. They were going to fight. But the State Department didn't believe it. EY didn't believe it. Yet at the end of the war, Abbot Low Moffat, Kenneth's chief, said to him "Ken, you'd better take my advice and get out of Southeast Asian affairs in the Department of State and indeed Southeast Asian affairs anywhere. There's no future in it for a fine mind."
