Kenneth on the "Office Chair Caper"

Kenneth tells the story of the office chair caper from the 1940’s. There was a fellow named Monroe Hall, who was coming back from service in Asia but who was ordered to stay for another year because of something he had done. Eventually he returned to the US and worked in the State Department with Kenneth. They were given small offices and hard-bottomed chairs, which Kenneth had trouble sitting on because he had a small bottom. Desks, chairs, rugs, and so on, were prescribed according to rank in the Department. A new executive chair was brought for the Assistant Secretary and Kenneth took it for himself. All the officers were completely astounded, but Kenneth managed to keep the chair for the 25 years he worked for government.

Over a course of 13 years Kip Landon (Kenneth Landon Jr.) began recording stories from his parents, Margaret and Kenneth Landon, resulting in 95 hours of recordings. Beginning on July 20, 1976, recording finished in June, 1978. The project resumed again in 1982 for a few months. After a long break, the third recording period began in 1988 and concluded in March 1989.
