Extra Income

Farming was important to Jonathan Blanchard. It provided him and his family with a side income when his employers during his time as a college president could not pay his salary. His concern for the farm is shown through his correspondence with his wife and children. Blanchard almost always included farm instructions in his letter and often inquired as to the well being of the farm if he had gone awhile without a letter from home.
