Seventy Apostles of Freedom

After a year at Andover Theological Seminary, Jonthan Blanchard left school as one of the Seventy Apostles of Freedom, a group of anti-slavery lecturers. During his year as an anti-slavery lecturer, Blanchard was often mobbed by angry crowds armed with stones or rotten eggs and vegetables.

After a lecture in Chambersburg, PA, Blanchard only escaped the anger of a mob due to the quick thinking of his host. The innkeeper sent a man, dressed in Blanchard's coat, out the back door, and pointed the mob after this decoy.
