Reformer

Jonathan Blanchard was regarded as a gifted orator in his time. Nothing stirred his blood more than the social justice issues of his day: slavery, temperance, and secret societies. Throughout his life he embraced these reforms. His political activity was always in support of his stance on these issues. When he traveled, he would often deliver temperance lectures. He established the Christian Cynosure newspaper to promote the disbanding of secret societies. And every position he occupied during his career had strong anti-slavery sentiment.
