Knox Accomplishments

Jonathan claimed to have left Knox better than he found it. He boasted that he had written the College diploma, procured the College Seal, established the library, graduated thirteen classes, and left the college free from debt. He also used his personal connections to secure a donation of $6,000 from J. P. Williston and a donation of land from a distant relative, Judge Charles Phelps. The land was sold for $30,000. When Jonathan arrived, the college was $5,000 in debt. When he left, Jonathan claimed the school was worth $400,000.
