The Webster Affair

Jonathan had such faith in his convictions that he seldom backed down from his position even during times of conflict. In 1877, Jonathan was embroiled in a conflict with John Calvin Webster, one of the Wheaton College professors. Webster charged Jonathan with financial mismanagement. The College had used money given by Webster to pay for building costs to expand Blanchard Hall. Webster disapproved.
